Book Review: The Silent Wife

Welcome to my first book review of 2014!
Over the holidays I had a decent amount of time to do some reading (one the train to PA, and then through hours upon hours of endless traffic), so I made my way through our latest book club book selection.

The Silent Wife by A.S.A. Harrison was chosen (which is ironic because I had just downloaded a book called The Shoemaker's Wife...lots of books about wives lately lol).
The Goodreads synopsis:
Jodi and Todd are at a bad place in their marriage. Much is at stake, including the affluent life they lead in their beautiful waterfront condo in Chicago, as she, the killer, and he, the victim, rush haplessly toward the main event. He is a committed cheater. She lives and breathes denial. He exists in dual worlds. She likes to settle scores. He decides to play for keeps. She has nothing left to lose.

I saw mixed reviews on the book, so I wasn't that jazzed to read it at first. People really liked it or seemed to really hate it or be disappointed by it. I think a lot of this had to do with the fact that it was touted as being the next Gone Girl. I don't think that it is, at all. It was still interesting to read, and see the various relationships develop, and change, throughout the book.

THe book goes back and forth between the two characters, which I actually like in books because you can see each character through their own 'eyes' and voices. And their two characters are VERY distinct (sometimes it seems like the same person in some books).

Overall I thought the story was interesting, and I  wanted to keep reading to see what would happen next and how everything would end up for both characters. I gave it 3 stars on Goodreads because I liked it, but I wasn't OH MY GOSH about it. Does that make sense?
Definitely an easy read, and a very different story than you'll typically read. That in and of itself is worth the read, in my opinion.

  3. I like books that alternate characters but I don't think i'll be reading this one. i'll only read books that you are "oh my gosh" about. plus I still haven't finished the other two books I've been trying to read for about a month plus.
