Friday Faves

Happy Friday, loves! We made it through another week--even though this one was a short one for me with a holiday and a snow day, it still felt super jam packed (tons of meetings to make up for those days off) and kind of hectic, so I'm definitely ready for the weekend!
Let's get to some faves this week!

{1} A Massage
I have a massage scheduled for right after work today and I can't wait. It's been a few weeks since I got my last one and after all of the stress over the past week, I can tell I need some knots worked out. Plus, it's for an hour and a half. Praise!

{2} Sweet Kiddie Valentine
One of my absolute favorite and most adorable little preschool guys came for his therapy last Thursday. When I went to get him, he had his hands hidden behind his back and says, in the cutest little kid voice ever "I has a soo-pize for you!" and then hands me this adorable little Valentine followed by the best hug ever! I swear to you, it made my whole day and still makes me smile thinking about it. (I wish I could show you all a picture of him on here because he's the most adorable guy ever!)

{3} Post This Week--Owen@Davis Duo
Owen wrote a post last week, and another one this week that I thought were both super powerful. The one this week is all of the things you shouldn't say to someone dealing with infertility. Everyone should read it. I've heard a lot of the same things that she mentions in her post and it just sucks, so go drop some knowledge on yourself :)

{4}Blogiversary
My blogiversary kind of came and went this year since I was sorta focused on other things on the actual day. February 16th of 2011 was when I started blogging-that was FIVE years ago! I seriously can't believe it's been that fast. I also can't believe how many wonderful people blogging has brought into my life, either in person, or just through our daily blog posts/texts/emails/gchats. I feel so thankful to have met so many amazing women out there who are caring, supportive, strong, friendly and just amazing. I appreciate all of you more than you know and hope to meet more of you IRL someday soon!

Sending you all some blog love today!

{5} Funnies
When you're dealing with customer service nightmare, and ask for the rep's name to talk to the manager, and they give you a name you know isn't real
{via}
My reaction when morons attempt to start drama for the millionth time
{via}
When you realize the adult jokes in the movies you used to watch as a kid
{via}
When the weather forecast says 60s and sunny instead of teens and snow
{via}
When you walk out of work on Friday afternoon

Hoping your day is quick, and filled with confetti at the end of the day! :) Catch you on Monday, loves!

Confessions

I'm linking up with my girl Jess today for the first round of Confessions on her blog!
I confess that....

.....I had a student make me laugh so hard the other day that another student in the group said "breathe, Ms. G, breathe!" These are some of the moments I love most about my job :)

....I'm over-the-moon excited to meet our friends' week-and-a-half old twins today after work. We're bringing by those cute outfits I shared with you on Monday, in addition to a pasta bake so they don't have to worry about cooking for themselves for a day or two!
arent they so cute????
....I'm totally engrossed in The People vs OJ Simpson. I remember the trial going on when I was in middle school, and we definitely paid attention and talked about it in school, but like with anything else, I was still young and didn't really absorb everything (which is a good thing), so it's really interesting to watch this and hear all of those details.
{via}
.....MG started in a new position at work a couple of weeks ago and since then, his schedule has changed to way better hours. I'm loving having him home at a reasonable time, and he's happier too. Plus, we get to cook dinner together every night now, instead of just a couple of times, which has been awesome!

....I've been reading The 5th Wave for a couple weeks now, and I'm only 50% through the book. Given, I'm not reading for hours each night, but I read a couple of chapters--you'd think I'd be through it sooner!
{via}
.....I've been drinking my new tea every morning before work instead of coffee and I haven't 1) fallen asleep at work or 2) killed anyone. Plus it tastes like apple pie, which is never a bad thing in the morning! :)
....it made me smile so big when a student I work with pushed through a difficult task and not only got through, but also got the correct answer on a test I was giving him. This was HUGE because he normally would shut down at any sign of difficulty and it made my heart sore when he worked through it! #teacherwin

....I love using my essential oil diffuser at work. Not only does it make my office smell heavenly (the kids come in and go "mmmmm!"), but I feel like it also helps keep the air at least slightly disinfected. I'll take all the help I can get through cold and flu season!

....it's exactly one month away from my birthday today!

...you should enter our Valentine's Day giveaway if you haven't already. Who doesn't want a year-long Birchbox subscription?? (Check out my post on Monday, at the bottom, to enter)

What are you confessin' this week?
Happy Thursday!!

Funny Kid Stories

With a new school year comes new kid stories and I've been saving up these gems since the start of school. I figured a good time to share was right after Winter Break when we all might need a little laughter to get us through going back to our old routines.

{via}
 The part of my job that I love most is working with kids. Stuff like this is just the icing on the cake.

When working with a 1st grader....
Me: "Whats your favorite food, A?"
A: "Old McDonalds"

~.~.~

Kindergarten girl, after finishing reciting the pledge of allegiance
Loud burst of "OOOOOH say can you seeeee!" like she was at a baseball game.

~.~.~

After asking some Kindergarten boys some of their favorites, in order to get to know them, I asked who their best friend was. They told me, and then they asked who mine was. I said "My best friend's name is Genna" and the one kid says "Genna....that sounds like gentleman"

The same kid, when I asked what he wanted to be when he grows up, says "a soldier in George Washington's army."
I paused and told him that might be difficult because....
the other boy jumps in and says "cuz he's dead!"
The first boy then says "it's not nice to tell people they're dead"

~.~.~.~

One of my quirky 5th grade boys told me that his favorite number is 420.
When I asked him why, he shared
"Because it looks like USA, backwards"
I moved on and didn't ask questions.

~.~.~.~
{via}
When I gave a 3rd grade boy a picture of gloves and asked him to tell me what they were used for, he said: "to keep your colds nice and warm".
Well, yeah, that's the general idea...

~.~.~.~.~

Me: "Tell me about a ghost"
Kinder boy: "Willy Wonka was one..."
Me:.......Ok.....
Kinder Boy: "They eat couch cushions"

Should I then assume that Willy Wonka eats couch cushions??
This same kid also told me that hamburgers are a vegetable.

~.~.~.~.~

When I asked a Kindergartener why he doesn't like peaches, his response was: "because I'm not a healthy man and I like chicken nuggets."

I'm looking forward to a school year with continued laughter and funny stories :)
Hope these made you laugh!

Funny Kid Stories

Since we're approaching the end of the never-ending school year, I thought it'd be a great time to post some funny kid stories that I've been collecting over the past few months.
I hope you enjoy these as much as I did hearing them :)

Overheard from a 3rd or 4th grader, across the hall in the girls' bathroom: "I'm a goddess, not a person"
Must be nice!
~.~.~

Back in the Winter, after two months of not having one FULL week of school without delays or snow days, I was walking outside with one of my 2nd graders to our modular in the midst of a rain storm, and she asks: "Why didn't we have a delay this morning?....It's raining" Unfortunately we don't get off for any day that simply isn't sunny haha
~.~.~

Two weeks ago (when the weather was regularly warm and no more chances of snow), it was supposed to rain/storm that day, and I overheard a student tell another kid, "I think school's gonna be cancelled today"
Either it was wishful thinking (I'm right there with ya, kid), or he was another kid confused by how many snow days we had this year
~.~.~

Another statement overheard from the girls' bathroom: "This isn't a social hour! Come on, let's go!" (and yes, that was from a student, not a teacher....but I'm willing to bet she didn't come up with that one herself)
~.~.~

I was walking into the main office to file some paperwork when I overheard a Preschool boy talking on the phone to his mother from the nurse's office. Imagine the cutest little voice saying this:
"I frowed up in the classroom.......but I came to the clinic and Mr. Nick did magic and I feeling better now".....
"Yeah....I frowed up in the classroom...but I no frowing up no more"
I died at the cuteness!
~.~.~

I have a 3rd grader working on not lisping sounds, so he has lots of 's' words. For each word (mice, mess, lace) he put the words into sentences and he kept re-using the same sentence "I have _____ in my bedroom." The next word on his list was "kiss" which he didn't want to do, but did anyway (while giggling, mind you). And when it got time for him to do his sentence, the other kid in the group asks, "Do you have THOSE in your bedroom, too?"
I busted out laughing and so did the kids. I couldn't help it.

~.~.~

I'm hopeful that the rest of the week (and a day) of school will lend itself to a few more funnies which will make the end of the year craziness that much better!
Hope that brightened your day and made you laugh :)

More funny/cute kid stories

As most of you know, I work in an elementary school, so on a daily basis I'm around kids who provide me with lots of fun times, entertainment, and good stories to share. And since it's my first week back at work after Winter Break (minus the impromptu day off we got for today's arctic temps), I thought now would be a good time to share some!

Here are some of the latest gems....

One of my kiddos tells me "I tole my parents I'm sick of going to skeech"....perhaps her argument would be more valid if she said 'speech' instead of skeech....
~~~~~
{via} see? I didn't make that
up!
Another kid told me that over the weekend he lost a tooth. I asked if the tooth fairy came, and he said "Yes! And then I caught my dad trying to take the tooth fairy money from under my pillow!".....yep....Dad was trying to take it....definitely wasn't putting it in there himself :)
~~~~
Then there was the day I walked by a 3rd of 4th grade boy who was wearing a shirt with the word BIMBO written across it....I later came to find out that this is apparently a Soccer brand. Which is still weird. Especially when you see a kid wearing it.
~~~~~
When playing Candy Land with a 5 year old, she goes "If I get one Red, I'm DOOMED!"
And then she, of course, got one red, got stuck on a licorice space, and said..."I told you I would be DOOMED!" Ahh, the intensity that Candy Land can have on a young life :)
~~~~~
I was trying to give a kid a hint about something that is 'circular' when working on categorization, so I asked "what do you use to pay for things with?" and he thinks, and says "Uhhh....water....melon?".....I guess this kiddo barters instead of using money!
The same kid later told me that ham and spaghetti were desserts. (See why we are working on categorization??? lol)
~~~~~~
In a meeting one day before Winter Break week, the mom shared that her daughter was upset about having a 2 hour delay for school on Wednesday, and when she asked why?, the girl shared "because that means that I miss Speech today and I love speech!"....when you rank above a 2 hour delay from school, it pretty much means you have celebrity status! :)
That's all I've got for now, but you'd better believe I'm taking notes on any new fun/cute stories that pop up in my day-to-day :)
Five on Friday
It's FRIDAY, thank goodness!!!
Before the day is done and we head into the weekend, here's my 5 on Friday...
{1}-Stompy
{via} yes, I googled "elephant stampede for this post haha
"What's Stompy?" you might ask. Well, Stompy is what MG and I have nicknamed our upstairs neighbor. She is a small little Asian girl but walks around with the force of a herd of stampeding elephants. She also apparently does laps around her bedroom at 5am, and at night into the 1am hours (thinking about it, this means she only sleeps 4 hours...). The other night she dropped something that had to have been super heavy because it crashed on the floor (my ceiling), woke Cooper up who started barking, and then she proceeded to stomp around her room some more. At 1am, you can only imagine the death glares that I shot at the ceiling. Stompy needs to stop it.
{2}-MG returns
I didn't mention it on the blog, because I don't like the public to know when I'm home alone, but MG was out of town for work this week in Las Vegas. Let's take one step back for a second and let me ask, why can't I get a job that sends me to Vegas for work? I digress. Anyway, I'm super glad that he's coming home tonight. I've adjusted to the times he has to go away during the week for work, but it stinks when he's not around on the weekends, so I'm glad he'll be back. When he's gone, I also get to drive his new car and feel like a cool kid. But, again, I'm glad to have him back so he can drive to places and I can play passenger :)
{3}-Engagement Pics and Rain?
Our engagement pictures are supposed to be this Sunday. We're cutting it close with this since we need to get the pics back, and then quickly order our Save the Dates so they can be sent out ASAP (before Oct 12th I'm hoping). But, of course, as MY luck would have it, the weather forecast went from complete sunshine and mid 70's to Showers. Son of a.....keep your fingers crossed that this doesn't ruin our session, because I really want to get these done! Also, what the heck am I going to wear??? Gahhh....
{4}-Laser Hair Removal
{via} Ok...maybe not THIS kind of laser...
Again, you're probably thinking "what???" but, I've decided to laser my underarms. (Don't worry, I'm not a hairy beast or anything, just something I've wanted to do.) I had bought a groupon for it a while ago and then decided against it. But, as my wedding is approaching, and now that it's getting cooler out, I kinda want to do it as my own personal treat to myself (as much as zapping your underarms with a laser can be considered a "treat"...) My friend did it and says she loves the results, and the timing is just about perfect that it will all be done by wedding day. Anyone had experience with it? I'm getting my first treatment after work today! Zap zap!
{5}-Kids At Work
They make me laugh. Almost daily. Last week I had one of my 2nd grade girls come into my office, see that I had a wooden basket with a bow on it from my teacher appreciation gift last year, and go..."So YOU'RE the Easter bunny?" After a moment I figured out what she was saying, and she goes "Why else would you have that basket??" Yep, no other reason, kiddo. Now do your speech work so the Easter bunny doesn't get mad (just kidding I didn't say that) :)
I also did my Kindergarten screenings for one class the other day and when asking one kid about his siblings, he said "my sister is old," and I asked "Very old?" and he goes "Well, she's not dead or anything." Thank you for clarifying.
When the paperwork gets overwhelming, and parents stress you out, these are the moments that make my job super enjoyable.
That's all I've got for today. Wish my luck on my underarm zapping! (Looks like my weekend is off with a bolt...or a jolt!)
Have a good one!
3rd graders with cologne???
Ok, so this is my second post of the day, but just happened, and it has made me laugh and at the same time, stumped me.
Can anyone tell me why, for the second day in the last week, I have had a THIRD grader come into my office smelling like cologne? And why they have both smelled SO STRONGLY of cologne that my office smells entirely like them after the 30 minutes that they are in here??
I mean, it's better than my middle schoolers who come in here smelling like B.O. and puberty, but still...I think my nose hairs might be singed off!
A little light humor for the afternoon.... ;)
Wednesday Randoms
Today I'm feeling particularly tired. I think it's a combination of waking up when it's still dark outside mixed with waking up earlier than usual today since I had to get to work early for a parent meeting. Therefore my
brain has been a little more scattered than usual. So here are some of the randoms that have been going on (two of them are stories, and one is useful):
1) One of the students I work with came to school yesterday and apparently had arrived an hour earlier than normal. When discussing this with her teacher, she said she thought Daylight Savings Time was only for one day, convinced her mother that she needed to be at school an hour earlier, and therefore arrived an hour before school opened. Of note, this student was over the age of 11.
2)I was teaching two 6th grade boys about idioms yesterday. And, in my stupidity, I said "Okay, who can tell me what an idiot is?" They both proceeded to laugh hysterically, as did I. It took us a little bit to compose ourselves. I may or may not have chuckled about it a little later, too.
3) You know those blotting sheets for your skin to make the oily stuff go away? Well, I have come up with another solution. Working in a school, there's an endless supply of those ugly brown paper towels in the bathrooms. These also work extremely well as blotting papers. Try it. And they're free!!
Hope your Wednesdays are full of fun stories and laughs!
