{Book Review}: The Last Anniversary

I finally got back on the reading train and finished my latest read, The Last Anniversary by Lianne Moriarty.

Here's the Goodreads synopsis (it's a little lengthy):
"Sophie Honeywell always wondered if Thomas Gordon was the one she let get away. He was the perfect boyfriend, but on the day he was to propose, she broke his heart. A year later he married his travel agent, while Sophie has been mortifyingly single ever since. Now Thomas is back in her life because Sophie has unexpectedly inherited his aunt Connie's house on Scribbly Gum Island -- home of the famously unsolved Munro Baby mystery.
Sophie moves onto the island and begins a new life as part of an unconventional family where it seems everyone has a secret. Grace, a beautiful young mother, is feverishly planning a shocking escape from her perfect life. Margie, a frumpy housewife, has made a pact with a stranger, while dreamy Aunt Rose wonders if maybe it's about time she started making her own decisions."
If you've been around these parts for a bit, you know that I adore Liane Moriarty's books. One of the things I like a lot about her books is telling the story from multiple characters' view points/voices. This was no exception, although the only thing I will say is that the amount of characters and their relationships totally confused me at first. So much so that I had to make a diagram to remind myself of who was who, and their relationship to the other characters. I'm including that in this post in case you decide to read the book, as it will help you understand the story a bit more as different characters come up.

Overall, I liked the book, and I enjoyed the main character Sophie. I will say, this is probably my least favorite book of Liane Moriarty's (not to say I didn't like it--it's just my least favorite of hers), but I'm not sure why. Maybe it was because of how confusing the character relationships were at the start, so I felt lost a lot at the beginning of the story trying to remember who was who.
Either way, this is a nice light read, and has an interesting story line and lots of unique characters! It's $2.99 on Amazon for Kindle.
I'd give this one 3.5 stars!

  1. Love the chart that you made!! It's hard when the author jumps into the book and doesn't reintroduce the characters...I've only read one other book by Liane, but for 2.99 might be worth it to read this one too lol! xo, Biana - BlovedBoston
