Weekending Highlights

This weekend started off on an incredibly scary and somber note with the terrorist attack that occurred in Paris on Friday evening. MG and I watched everything unfold, completely and utterly dumbfounded at the hatred in this world. I continue to pray for those whose lives were lost and the families of the people who were taken too soon from this world.
With that, I'm going to share my highlights because there were still happy things this weekend, amongst the sadness.

My weekend highlights included:

~Came home from work to my Rebecca Minkoff bag waiting for me on our doorstep #allthehearteyes

~Friday night sushi dinner date night with MG. So much yum!
~A night in, on the couch--had plans to rent a movie, but watched the news coverage of the attacks in France, in shock

~early morning of errands all over the place with some pretty chilly, blustery Fall weather to accompany us; and a trip to Costco where we picked up another one of their super soft and comfy blankets for couch cuddles in the basement--the pattern is so pretty!
~lounging with these slippers, purchased at Target (I love how cute the cable knit sweater part is, and they are SO comfy--highly recommend!)
{via} Only $15!
~late afternoon 4 mile walk/hike with MG
~Gave myself a manicure with Essie's Bahama Mama

~Got ready for a double date night out with our friends who we had dinner plans with last weekend, but plans had gotten cancelled.
~Tried out a new-to-us restaurant in DC, called Lincoln, with some of THE best food I've had in a loooooong time. The wine was delicious, and so were the small plates that we split: brussel sprouts, flat iron steak, mushroom risotto, mac and cheese, and french onion short ribs, and the pecan pie ice cream (with candied pecans!!) for dessert, plus French press coffee....we were stuffed! There were so many more dishes we wanted to try-and we'd had plans to order several rounds of dishes-but we couldn't stuff in any more food because the portions were so big!
(The place was obviously themed after Lincoln, with various artwork/decor centered around him, and the entire floor was done with pennies...it was pretty cool!)
~Made plans to celebrate the guys' birthdays in a couple of weeks, along with a holiday outing together, too

~Discovered Lyft, which is even cheaper than Uber (download the app if you haven't yet--you can earn points and get free rides, too)

~Meal prepped and ran some more errands on Sunday morning

~Had our favorite buffalo chicken wraps with home made blue cheese dressing (an almost weekly tradition during the football season)
~Discovered an awesome furniture/decor store near our place that has some great pieces. I could get lost in this store forever! (This video is just the beginning of what this store has in it!)
~got in a little reading, watched some football games and saw some fantastic results (the Vikings--the team our friend coaches on--are actually in playoff contention this year!)

~had the doors open since the weather was so pretty out

All in all, it was a good weekend for us, and I'm incredibly thankful for that.
My heart still hurts that what happened on Friday is something that is becoming the new normal, it seems. As hard as Mondays can be, I'm choosing to be thankful for this Monday--the privilege of experiencing the start of another week was taken away from so many people on Friday, and I won't spend mine wishing it away.
Be present. Make sure the people around you know that you love them.
I pray for France, our world, and its future.

  2. You Instagram picture was the first indication of the Paris attack I saw. I've been MIA in the news department latey since my little ones have moved in. TV and toddlers - I know more about Dora The Explorer and her world than I do of our own world. Very sad indeed! Sounds like you still found happy places in the midst of the world's sadness this weekend.

  3. Everything in Paris just makes me so sad. My heart still hurts for them because I know how scary everything was here after 9/11 and that's what I'm comparing it to. Just unbelievable. I agree--let's all be thankful and be present today <3

  8. My heart aches for Paris. I've been there several times and it just breaks my heart to see this city where everyone is always so carefree, in a state of massacre...but mostly my heart aches for Kenya, Syria...and everywhere where this is the norm.

I'm so glad you finally got to try Lincoln! That's my favorite restaurat in DC! Looks like a great weekend!

  13. My heart is heavy from Friday's events. I agree that there are always happy things that occur even with sadness and I am thankful for the privilege to be having this Monday too.
The Lincoln restaurant looks really cool! I love going to restaurants that have small plates so that I can get a small taste of a lot of dishes...especially since my boyfriend and I each choose things that pushes the other one outside their food comfort zone. I hope you have a great week!

  14. Completely agree with being present and not wanting to wish away time because unfortunately, we never really know how long we have. It sounds like you were able to have a great weekend relaxing and getting stuff done, despite the tragedy on Friday. Your sushi from Friday looks delicious, and your meal on Saturday sounds delicious!

  18. Friday was terrible. I couldn't believe that had happened without me knowing it for so many hours but I had the TV and radio off and was working. I too tried to make the best of my weekend and focus on the good that I have.

  20. Lincoln sounds fabulous - I always love unique places like that. The hike was such a perfect activity with this great weather weekend - my favorite kind of workout! I love your blurb at the end - I was so grumpy about something this morning for a couple minutes and then thought you know, it could be a lot worse - Monday mornings and stupid little things really aren't THAT bad.
