Tuesday Talk: Real Life

I know some of you have noticed that I haven't posted much in the past week, and many of you have reached out to check on me--which I thank you guys for! It was nice to know I was missed and that people were concerned.

So I thought I'd fill you in on what's been going on:

My dad's been in the hospital for almost 3 weeks due to complications related to his congestive heart failure. He was on meds to help his heart beat more, so that it could help remove fluid from his body (without your heart pumping well, fluid tends to build up in feet, legs, and belly which is what was happening to my dad).

After a good conversation that included my mom and his cardiologist, and another doctor who has been overseeing his care, hospice services were put on the table, so last week was spent wrapping our heads and hearts around that. And spending as much time with his as possible at the hospital. Hence why I just haven't had the time or energy to write about blog things--and things that didn't revolve around this.

Part of the process was weaning him off of the meds he had been on to see how he would do. This could have been too much for his body and had immediate effects which is why I was with him as much as possible last week. Luckily, my dad, being the fighter that he is, seems to be stabilizing without the IV meds, and yesterday he was moved out of the cardiac ICU to a regular cardiac floor where they can monitor the fluid output with his current meds.

From there, next steps will be decided. He'll either go to a skilled nursing facility where they can work to get him a bit stronger, or we'll be considering other options.

I've been in and out of work, and have shared with a few people what's been going on. I came to work on Monday morning to a desk filled with pink tulips from a family that I work with (and had to cancel therapy with because of a hospital visit, so they knew what was going on), and an incredibly sweet and thoughtful note attached.
That, along with my in-laws, the numerous friends both in blog world, and in my every day, who have been checking in, sending prayers and positive thoughts, I feel incredibly blessed to have such an amazing support network when things get rough and life makes you grow up in ways that you never wanted to.
I'll continue to root for my dad, and be thankful for each additional day we get to spend together.

So, that's what's been up with me. I'll be back with What's Hap-"Pinning" Wednesday with Jessi tomorrow, so please link up, and share some happy stuff :)

  21. I've been thinking of you and your family. Hang in there, focus on what you need to do, and don't worry about anything that doesn't matter as much. Sometimes during times like this we feel we owe people or situations things, and you don't. You owe yourself and your family whatever you feel is right.

  38. Oh Jenn. I know exactly how you feel. My mother as I've shared with you before suffered with CHF for years until she passed with her heart stopping. It is a long and often hard road and watching them suffer is so difficult. I would leave her apartment/hospital after visiting with her in tears because it kept taking a little more of her each time I would visit. I ended up taking care of her in the end with the help of hospice, but eventually she let go. I'm happy to know she is in a better place with no fluid checks, meds, blood work, pain and suffering. I'll be lifting you up in prayer and know you're being thought of. I'm so very sorry you have to go through this.
