Weekending Highlights

Happy Monday, loves! I'm coming off of a really fun weekend, and facing two parent meetings today, so today is going to be a bit rough.

Let's recap the highlights from this weekend though!

My weekend highlights included:

~Perfect weather on Friday

~An unexpected trip to the vet because we'd noticed a little blood in Cooper's pee the night before. Ended up doing a urine-analysis AND an Xray. Cooper is ok and we just need to try out a new food for him, but we left with $200 less in our bank account #expensivepup
~Grabbed dinner and then headed to the theater with our friends to see Pop Star with Andy Samberg which was really funny! Definitely worth seeing at some point, even if it's just on Netflix or Redbox when it gets there

~Woke up to a warm Saturday morning and decided to go for a long walk before it got too hot

~Enjoyed a little time on the deck before getting to work trimming the rose bushes while MG cut the grass and trimmed the hedges #homeownershipfun

~Tried to contact Travelocity because we realized they canceled a trip we had booked and never told us (thankfully this isn't our Greece trip). Waited on the phone for 1 hour and 50 minutes before giving up. NEVER book a trip through Travelocity!!!!
~Met up at our friends' house for a drink and some snacks before heading to Mt Vernon for their Summer Escape beerfest event

~Had a great time soaking in the views from GW's grounds, listening to music, and trying some new brews. Found a cucumber saison which was incredible (and it was also 7.4% which explains why I was feeling less than stellar the next day). And of course some snap filters while we waited in lines :)

(thank you to the humidity in the air for the wavy hair that completed this look lol)
~Made some breakfast the next morning and spent a lot of quality time with the couch

~Got myself together and met up with my friend Maria for pedicures while MG was at Top Golf with some of his coworkers #happyfeet
~Got in some reading--really enjoying the book I finally got (thanks for lending it to me Trish!)

~Ran some errands in the afternoon, gave Cooper a bath, then got in some snuggles
(Cooper is auditioning for PlayGirl Puppy)
~Chipotle for dinner for me because the craving was real, and MG grilled out while I watched :)

~Went for an after-dinner walk with Cooper to work off some of the calories we just took down

~Watched the Tony awards and was so happy to have Hamilton win so much!
Did you see Lin Manuel's acceptance speech?
And that leads me into the dark cloud that hung over the weekend. The shooting that happened in Orlando. With each one of these mass shootings and acts of terror, it makes me sicker and sicker. Sick that we, as a country, are doing NOTHING to stop this! I need to see a lot less talk from politicians and A LOT more action. I'm tired of not feeling safe at home, not feeling safe when I travel. I'm tired of mourning. I'm tired of hate. I'm tired of bigotry. I'm tired of being terrorized as a country, and the people who continue to support and promote this kind of hate that breeds more hate!

In the words of Lin Manuel Miranda last night:
"Senseless acts of tragedy remind us that nothing here is promised, not one day. This show is proof that history remembers. We live through times when hate and fear seem stronger. We rise and fall and light from dying embers, remembrances that hope and love last longer"
And....
"Love is love is love is love is love is love is love is love is love....cannot be killed or swept aside"

  2. Sounds like you had a fabulous weekend!! I saw Pop Star, too, and was surprised with how much I enjoyed it. Definitely a good, lighthearted movie to see after all the senseless violence this weekend!

  7. Oh vet bills. Last year we spent no less than $4k on chloe and sophie. Ugh. but glad he is ok. So glad you had a good and fun weekend.

  9. Looks it was a fun busy weekend. Glad to hear that Cooper is doing well. I thought Lin-Manuel Miranda speech was fantastic! Love is love. There are no words for what happened and we so need action. No more talk talk talk, we need action not speeches.

  10. I would be so mad if my trip got cancelled! I'm glad it wasn't your Greece trip though! I am in need of a pedicure too. Glad that Cooper is alright!

  11. Glad you had a great time at Mt. Vernon- a cucumber saison sounds UH-Mazing! Perfect for summer! And you are right-- there was definitely a cloud over Sunday. Lin-Manuel Miranda put it oh so well. So tragic. So senseless. Rachel -CubicleCouture

  13. I didn't watch the Tonys but that speech would have had me in tears. What happened in Orlando was sickening and heart-wrenching. I don't understand hate. I just don't. on a brighter note, looks like you had a lovely weekend... I'm glad Cooper is ok! I feel the same with vet bills... we had to have our dog's dewclaw removed after it got half ripped off and that was a bill that was hard to stomach. Good thing our fur-kids are so sweet and cute!

  14. I am sad I missed his speech, I need to find it somewhere to watch it. Hate is the worst and I wish we could rid our world of it. I hear you on the vet bills. every time it is something! The Mount Vernon thing looked great! Glad the weather cooperated!

  15. The views from Mt Vernon look so spectacular! I wouldn't mind waiting in line that much if I had that view! It really is so terrible what happened in Orlando over the weekend, and Lin Manuel really did say it so well.

  16. Seriously the worst with that shooting. Broke my heart. But on a lighter note, it looks like you had a great weekend. Lots of time outside, grilling, good food and a beer fest. Awesome!

  20. Looks like such a beautiful weather weekend! So glad the rain is finally gone! And poor Coop. We had a $200 vet trip a couple weeks ago with Brady for an ear infection, those are never fun. Hope your week is off to a great start!

  21. I hate paying vet bills, but I love my furry friends so I make it happen. It's nearly impossible to walk in and out without spending $100+. Here's to hoping Cooper stays healthy and finds a new food :)

  22. Ugh the vet gets us like that every time! Lola has been good lately but at one point when she was a puppy it was vet bill after vet bill. I hope Coop's doing better with the new food. Your Mt Vernon trip looks like a great day with friends.

Good to know the customer service at Travelocity sucks....that wait time is ridiculous!

  23. So glad the pup is okay! How old is he?
When we took our dog to the ER vet last fall, we asked how much it would be and I don't even know why: we'd empty our bank accounts on that little guy.
Still a depressing way to start the weekend.

  24. I totally loved his speech too. So powerful. Glad to hear your pup is ok -- what a scare!

  25. Nearly 2 hours on hold? You have much more patience than I do. Hope the trip gets sorted out quickly, and that Cooper feels better soon!

  26. Looks like a fabulous weekend doll and seriously how can they just cancel your trip? One of my docs they cancelled two of his kids flights and him and his wife and the other kid they kept. Isn't that crazy? Did it all get worked out?

  27. Glad to hear C is doing better! Travelocity cancelled your trip!? Did you get that worked out? I totally loved his acceptance speech, and I couldn't agree with you more about your feelings. These people went out to have fun and dance. We're not even safe from that any longer. xo, Champagne&Suburbs

  28. So glad you had a great weekend despite the incident with Cooper on Friday! And glad Cooper is ok. Hope you were able to get your trip stuff figured out! And yes to the love is love... I wish more people would remember that. <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes

  29. Sounds like the perfect weekend girl, minus the $200 gone at the vet. I've never booked through Travelocity, but won't ever be doing so...how do they just cancel a trip?! Missed the Tony's, but heard the speech and LOVED what he had to say...love is love is love is love is love <3!!!!
