Stuff N Things

I'm so excited that today is Thursday which means one more day of work after today!! The kids and teachers are both super ready for the break to begin, and with the cold temps rolling in today (single digits with the wind chill), I'd be 100% ok under layers of blankets right now instead of working.
But alas, work calls, so in the meantime I'll entertain both of us with some confessions and random thoughts:

~Getting a "window" of time from a company that is 10am-3pm....you may as well tell me you'll be there "sometime during the work day" because that's how long I'll have to take off of work to be there for you. That's not a window.
~Assuming the weather is safe (they're calling for icy mix Saturday morning), we're going to Quantico National Cemetery this Saturday morning to lay wreaths...one of which will be on my dad's grave. It touched me that one of our close couple friends said that they wanted to go with us. Love the support during an emotional time. #friendsarefamily

~I hate the new main screen for blogger. They said it was easier/more efficient, but every time I log in, all I see are my list of posts, and have to click around to get to my comment moderation, or to the actual blog feed. Not easier, not better. Go back to how it was, blogger. #gohomebloggeryouredrunk

~when you're in your office and you can hear a parent yelling and cursing through cinder block in the office next to yours......you put your ear up to the cinder block and listen even MORE intently (and thank your lucky stars that you're not in the meeting too) #eavesdropper

~I sat in on a meeting on Tuesday at work with a parent who is new to me, and based on her demeanor and some of the things that she said, I had a flash-forward to all of the "intense" meetings our school will be having with her in the future, probably with lawyers and/or advocates. #thefutureisgrim

~MG's coworker, who is a martyr, came in to work on Tuesday saying she thought she had the flu. EVERYONE, including their boss, told her to go home, including MG who shares a cubicle with this chick. But nooooo home girl had to stay at work ALL day just to prove (I guess to herself) that she's too valuable. She even said to MG "I know you have a pregnant wife at home"...well then biatch, GO HOME! Wednesday morning she texts that her doctor says she definitely has the flu. So, now we are hoping that neither of us come down with the flu, especially before our trip. Pregnancy immune system is the worst--thankfully we both got our flu shots this year. #stayhomesicky #keepyourgermstoyourself

~this week is sex ed week at school (aka "Family Life Education) for 4th, 5th and 6th graders. During a parent meeting on Tuesday, this girl's dad shared how his daughter had learned that babies are made up of each parent's DNA, and then proceeded to ask "how does your DNA get into mommy? Does she swallow it?" One: awkward (and hilarious). Two: more awkward hearing it shared in a meeting lol #icouldwriteabook

And on that funny story, I'll leave you and get back to my day. Hoping your Thursday goes by quickly so we can get to Fridayyyyy! :)

  2. Hahaha laughing at the last thing! Literally sometimes during parent meetings I just sit there staring at them thinking, "what in the world did you just say?!" And I hate the new Blogger too! I hate that on my blog feed it won't let me scroll back to read old ones that I may have missed! I had to update my bloglovin with all of the blogs I read and now I use that because lately I've been so busy that I haven't been able to read all of my normal blogs and so I have to read them the next day or two. Ugh. Hope y'all don't get sick!

  3. Parents are always the best and worst part of working with kids. So sweet that your friends want to accompany you to lay a wreath.

  5. That is so special that you will get to lay a wreath at your dad's grave. I know that will be super emotional but I'm glad you guys will have friends there for support!

  6. BAHAHAHA...I just lol-ed at that last one and my students are testing. My mom teaches a sex ed class for a few weeks of every year and the questions she gets are hilarious. We don't teach any type of sex ed in my district which I think is horrible but there it is.

Also I love the idea of putting wreaths on graves for veterans and how special is it that you're getting to put one on your dad's grave! Which I could come with! yay for just one more day!

  7. I'm totally one of those people that hates to take a sick day but if I'm running a fever or contagious I make myself stay home. I really hope you all don't get sick!!!

  8. I don't like the new blogger layout either! It's so frustrating.

  9. That flu story is something else. The best thing you can do when you're sick is keep that virus to yourself. Here's hoping she didn't pass it on.

  10. You are not a hero for coming into work sick. Work from home or take a sick day, do not infect others if you are contagious.

    Godspeed on Saturday!

  11. I hope you don't get sick and that the weather holds out for y'all!

Parent stories are always my favorite part of talking to my mama in the evenings. She's a principal's secretary and it always amazes me how funny some people are.

  15. Haha that is a funny story. I am dying of laughter over here. I can't believe he said that. That is very sweet of you to go lay the wreaths down and for your friends to come. Very special. I have my fingers and toes crossed for you that you don't get the flu. Being sick while pregnant is the worst. Have a great week!

  16. LOL I love what kids say sometimes! Best stories! I cannot stand when people feel like they need to come to work when they are sick! Now, yes i have done it but as soon as my boss said go home I did!

  17. I'm so glad I'm not the only cinderblock creeper around. Haha. I hate that feeling of knowing what is to come with a parent is not going to be pretty. Makes me so hesitant. I really think a book should be in your future. Especially as your bump gets bigger and bigger. My little kinder friends ask me every day "is your baby girl still in there" while they wave at her.

  18. bahaha kids say the darndest things! Too funny! EW to the flu! Is she serious? GO HOME NOW WEIRDO - hope you stay well through the holidays missy! I think they were putting chemicals down here so I'm like uhoh - on party night? Anyway, have a great last day at work and cheers to brrreeaaak!!!

  19. Oh god, kids say the craziest things - and usually when they just don't know better. I'm SO glad I don't work in an elementary or high school though. I work at a community college, and you get some parents, but nothing crazy and there isn't any yelling. You do get some rude people though. Sigh.

  20. I had a meeting yesterday and thought of you lol.
I only have to go to 3 or 4 IEPs a year, but they can be rough.

  21. I absolutely hate when companies give you a window of time to be home like we don't have jobs or things to be doing. A mattress company once delivered at 4am. WTF? Can people get some sleep!! The flu girl sounds ridiculous!
