Book Review: Wedding Night

I read this book a while ago, I just forgot to review it, so here goes this one a bit late!
I read this book in early December--I was looking for a lighter read after having read some heavier stuff and saw some good reviews on this book so I downloaded it to my Kindle

Here's the Goodreads summary:
"Lottie just knows that her boyfriend is going to propose, but then his big question involves a trip abroad—not a trip down the aisle. Completely crushed, Lottie reconnects with an old flame, and they decide to take drastic action. No dates, no moving in together, they’ll just get married . . . right now. Her sister, Fliss, thinks Lottie is making a terrible mistake, and will do anything to stop her. But Lottie is determined to say “I do,” for better, or for worse."

I gave this book 3 stars out of 5. It was definitely an easy, light read. My problem with it was that the main character is in her mid 30's and acts more like a teenager. It was just really unbelievable to me. And some of the things that people said were laugh-out-loud funny, I just thought were kinda stupid. There were a couple of times that I chuckled, but nothing insane.

I did want to find out what would happen and how it would all work out, and it was a quick and easy read, but I feel like I'm just not a fan of this author. I don't love main characters who come across as helpless dummies with no common sense. I also couldn't get through Confessions of a Shopaholic when I tried to read it a few years ago, so maybe this author just isn't my cup of tea.
Now that I write this "out loud" maybe I should have given it 2 stars.

We'll settle for 2.5

  1. I actually really love Sophia Kinsella, but I haven't read this one before!! I sort of need a fluffy read, but 2.5 stars may not do it lol! xo, Biana - BlovedBoston

  2. I usually love Sopie Kinsella books so Im sad to hear this one wasn't great. I feel like a character in her 30's that acted like a teenager would annoy me more than anything. Great review girl!

  8. I have been a fan of some of Sophie Kinsella's books, but this one sounds like a bit of a miss:( Kind of like Emily Giffin's latest book. Usually I love her stuff too - but I guess authors can't get a home run every time, right? Thanks for sharing, though Jenn. I've looked at this book before and not purchased, so it's good to know what you thought. I'll be moving on to another option!:)

  10. I think what I liked most of it that it was just a different type of read - I couldn't even classify it to a category. But I agree that Lottie did come off pretty dumb. She wasn't my favorite character, either.

  11. I read the Shopaholic series years ago. It is definitely a no brainer read. I was considering this one for some fluffy reading but I haven't got around to it yet. Great review!

  14. I used to read each Sophie Kinsella books as soon as they came out, but the past few years I've stopped. They're definitely are a little cheesy and predictable, but every once in a while that's what you want. I do think her characters can be really frustrating, and it sounds like that's the case here.

  15. I've read a couple of her books, and I think they just lack depth for me.
