It's the middle of the week so you know what that means! Time to link up with Jessi and I to share what's hap-"pinning" with you!
This week I'm talking about our basement/guest bathroom reno with you. We're in the preliminary stages of planning and deciding on what we want. I know that anything we choose will be an upgrade from the old school 80's super low wooden vanity we have going on in there and the parquet floors, but I'm undecided on what we should do.
Ideally I'd love to do a honeycomb mosaic marble tile, but it's a basement bathroom and do I really need to spend a bunch of money on flooring for a room that barely gets any use? Not really.
But it looks so pretty!

We have another tile as an option. MG loves it, but I tend to think it brings that older apartment floor feel to it. What are your thoughts? I know it's kind of on trend (or coming back on trend?), but to me it has the "old" feeling to it. Would you do this flooring?
Here are some similar examples of what it looks like from some pins:

Another potential option for the flooring would be these round tiles, but in all white:
The flooring guy we spoke with said they are pretty popular right now. This is an example:

I also can't find a vanity that I love. And can't decide between a dark mocha colored cabinet, or a white vanity--like what is shown in the above pictures. We have dark cabinets in all of the bathrooms in the house so I'm thinking we should do that (and there are so few 24" vanities that look decent and not cheap).
Gahhh! So many decisions! I feel like once we pick the flooring, the rest will be slightly easier to figure out.
So, help me out. Do you like the first tile option (the hexagons, with the little squares in between), or the little round ones? Or something completely different?
Dark vanity or light vanity? Give me your thoughts! I want to make it look nice but also don't want to spend a fortune on a room we'll hardly use.

Ooooohhh I love the light..! Looking forward to being home with baby so I could get started on our own bathroom! Nothing major just painting the cabinets and walls! Happy Wednesday! I'm sure you'll pick out something great!
ReplyDeleteI love the "older apartment feel" tile with a white vanity!
ReplyDeleteI am so partial to the hardwood looking tile that I would have put it in our home if we didn't have so many areas to tile! I would do that with a white vanity because I also love all white! I know whatever you choose will be great!

So exciting! That honeycomb marble is so pretty! Can't wait to see what you guys choose and the finished product <3

Hmmmmm didn't you do wood floors down there? So tough but if it is a smaller space, definitely go light and bright all the way to keep that space looking big :)
ReplyDeleteI love the honeycomb look! I think keep it all light! I can't wait to see what you do with it!
ReplyDeleteoh i like the first set of tiles for sure. love the old school feel to them. and i don't think you need to go dark like the rest of the bathrooms. every one could look different if you'd like. plus a different floor too. try white you may like it!

Ok, so I think the round or honeycomb. Its a small space so won't be that much tile and I agree the first one looks apartment to me. And I could see going either way on the vanity color. Dark would match, but since its the basement, the white could brighten the space and offer a different look. Anything will make you happier than its current state. Love you!
ReplyDeleteI say white, white, white! White all the way! Especially with a bathroom that doesn't have a window (right?) so no natural light. Can't go wrong with light, bright, white! Also, I love all the flooring options you shared. I'd tend to agree with saving your money and not doing the marble if it's not a space that gets used much. But I think either of the other options would be cool! I'd say go with whatever you think will stand the test of time better and not look outdated at any point. I know you probably aren't planning on moving anytime soon, so you don't have to worry about resale value or anything, but it's always good to choose things that aren't too trendy!
ReplyDeleteI like the honeycomb too instead of the subway tile. I agree with Emelia, keep it light! I can't wait for the updates!
ReplyDeleteI love the honeycomb look but I agree, for the price and use of the room, you can def do something a little cheaper for the same look. I love the all circle tiles! and white floor is ammaazzzing. Anything white is perfect in my book! can't wait to see how it turns out!
ReplyDeleteI like the last pin best, for a basement. I like darker furniture generally, but in bathrooms it's usually better to go lighter.
ReplyDeleteWe're putting gray "linen" porcelain tile in our bathrooms and hallway.
Oh I love the honeycomb marble. I would keep the bathroom light since it's a small space and in the basement. I'm sure whatever you pick will be fantastic. You have great taste.
ReplyDeleteThe honeycomb is so pretty but I agree, is it worth it to spend that much on a bathroom that barely gets used? I actually kinda like the one MG picked! It's more modern than the old school floors! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes
ReplyDeletePick the flooring first for sure! The vanity (top especially) will need to play off of the floor. The options are listed in order of my favorites (honeycomb, hexagons w/squares, a distant last = the round tiles. I'm not a "round" tile lover!). The first two would be veyr beautiful- crisp, clean, welcoming. This makes me miss the days of home reno's, but it can definitely be overwhelming! Make today work, Rachel -CubicleCouture
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the honeycomb look!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's the exact flooring in our master bath!! We did a black and white old glamour feel and it added to the vintage feel perfectly! Happy Wednesday friend! Xo
ReplyDeleteLoooove the honeycomb look! Looks so clean and classic! The little circle ones are neat but I feel like you may get tired of that look. Anything you choose will be perfect though!
ReplyDeletePicking out details for renovations can be so fun but so stressful too! I like the honeycomb tile the best. I think it looks classic and won't go out of style. I'm excited to see the end result. Cheers, Laura
ReplyDeleteI think that first tile option might be my favorite! Enjoy redoing your bathroom - if you need a painter, I might be a pro at it now after all of the painting we've down on our house ;)
ReplyDeleteI love the first tile and a light vanity - All your inspiration ideas area great, they all look fresh, light and clean!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that honeycomb black and white flooring! Go for it!
ReplyDeleteI like the honeycomb or the white round tiles but completely agree that you don't need to spend $$$ since it's a basement bathroom! Can you find the honeycomb style in a white or gray (not marble) that you like? Since it's small and in the basement I think keeping it light will help make it feel bigger and more modern I would say white all the way.
ReplyDeleteFun! And I know no matter what choices you go with, it will be absolutely beautiful because you have absolutely awesome taste! I do love lots of your suggestions, I do love white but I think I would go with the darker mocha I am really loving those cabinets right now! I hope you find a vanity that you love to! Can't wait to see the reveal when it's all finished!
ReplyDeleteI love the first two tile designs. I like the modern look and subtle color variations...makes it really unique from anything I've seen before.
ReplyDeleteI like the first tile and I love white cabinets. Makes the smaller space brighter!
ReplyDeleteI like the second option better, the round ones. But honestly? I'd go with the cheaper option because it's the basement/barely used.
ReplyDeleteI love the hexagon tiles, I am a sucker for old stuff though! Even thought the rest of the house is dark think the white will open it up more. Whatever you choose, it will loom great! And better than the old 80's look. Good luck with the reno!
ReplyDeleteI like the first look better just because it looks like a. it's more timeless and b. it looks like it's easier to clean. Good luck with the renovation! :)
ReplyDeleteI think getting to plan out the changes to your home is half the fun! I personally like the hexagon style!
ReplyDeleteThis is hard, but I kind of like the round tiles better! And I always vote for light and bright, so light vanity :) Can't wait to see what you guys do!
ReplyDeleteSo many options girl!! I actually like the "old tile" look because it is definitely coming back in style and has an urban feel to it. I definitely think if you go with light tiles, then go for a darker mocha color for a vanity so it pops against the white/light tiles! Can't wait to see what you guys end up doing!!
ReplyDeleteOkay I love all of these options. I would never be able to decide. But I definitely love the white clean look!
ReplyDeleteBlessed Messes
Obsessed with all of these options!! Whatever you choose, I know it will look amazing :)
ReplyDeleteNo offense, MG, but I hate those floors and they should never come back into style. Those plain little round tiles are really cute though, if they are cheaper than the honeycomb, I say go for it! The honeycomb are amazing though.
ReplyDeleteI love the honeycomb look!
ReplyDeleteI saw a blogger that used honeycomb, but it was a vinyl and it actually looked really nice. I think both those tiles are classics - can't really go wrong with either! I think depending on what grout color you choose, it will look updated and not old like you are thinking it could!
ReplyDeleteSo many decisions, but fun decisions to make! Can't wait to see what you pick!
