Book Review: When I Found You

I've really been on a reading kick lately....kinda ripping through books. Snow days and delays probably helped with that....

Recently, I just finished the book When I Found You by Catherine Ryan Hyde:

Here's the Goodreads summary:
When Nathan McCann discovers a newborn baby boy half buried in the woods, he assumes he's found a tiny dead body. But then the baby moves and in one remarkable moment, Nathan's life is changed forever.
The baby is sent to grow up with his grandmother, but Nathan can't forget him and is compelled to pay her a visit. He asks for one simple promise - that one day she will introduce the boy to Nathan and tell him, 'This is the man who found you in the woods.'
Years pass and Nathan assumes that the old lady has not kept her promise, until one day an angry, troubled boy arrives on his doorstep with a suitcase..

This was another book I found on Amazon that was $1.99 (I think it's $3.99 now) and it sounded interesting enough to try out for $2.
I thought the story was different. I was curious to find out how it would all work out and come together. It was a relatively easy read, but at points I wondered "where is this story going?" It wasn't until the last 25% of the book that I really got it. I may have even had some eyes water towards the end, too, which I didn't expect.

I liked that every chapter began with a line that was part of that chapter, but was also somehow the most important or poignant part of it. I thought it was unique.

Each chapter also started off with the date that everything was happening. I felt like I easily lost track of what the date had been of the previous chapter, and kept going back to the last one so that I knew how much time had passed (sometimes it was a day, and sometimes it was months or years).

Overall the book was about 3 stars out of 5 for me. I had a hard time believing some of what the main character was all about sometimes, at least until the end. If you're looking for something a little different, but touching at the end, I'd try this one out. Especially if it's still only $1.99. I didn't love the book, but I liked it.
