Book Review: Unwanted Stars

I finally finished the 3rd book that I started on my honeymoon, but since getting back, just didn't have the time to really sit down and just read.

Here's the Goodreads summary:
It’s funny how the tiniest of things can change your life… an invitation, a simple kiss goodnight, a matchbook…
Auden Kelly is in need of a change.
She’s trading in her nine-to-five sales job for the adventure of a lifetime: a one year contract with a European tour company.
For one full year, Auden will get paid to see the world. What could be better? Her brother gives her a journal, instructing her to document all of her adventures as she travels from country to country. And that’s exactly what she does.
When a mysterious stranger enters her life, however, everything changes: her expectations, her priorities and her view of the world. And nothing for Auden will ever be the same.

I wasn't super impressed with this book. It had everything in the making to be really good, it just didn't pull through for me. I'm not sure how it has over 4 stars on Goodreads. The story is told through journal entries, which I thought was a great idea, but the "entries" weren't really how someone would write in their journal.

Also, I thought this book would be about something totally different than it ended up turning out to be about, which also had the potential to be good, but it came about 70% of the way through the book. So, the main part of the book happened and wrapped up super quickly, in a nice neat bow, that didn't come off as very realistic to me.

Also, I felt like the main character sounded more like a teenage girl, rather than a 23 year old. I feel like this author should have read some books like The Fault in Our Stars, where the teens talk like super civilized adults, and used some of the language from those books. And the author was obviously trying to go for some of the sexy writing from books like 50 Shades (altho not quite that dirty)...but it made the book feel more like it couldn't make up its mind what it wanted to be...

Overall, it was a cheap buy from Amazon, but I wouldn't really waste my time reading this one.
