Sisterhood of the World-Blogger Award

You've probably seen this floating around blog world, and I was lucky enough to be nominated by the super sweet Kathleen at Places I Will Go.
Here are the questions she posed:

1. What is the story behind your blog name?
Going the Distance started because, when I started my blog, I was in a long distance relationship. When that ended, I didn't want to change the name of my blog, so I just did a revamp and made it into  going the distance, in my life. Lemonade out of lemons! :)

2. If you had to give up your current passport and get another country's passport, which country would you pick?
Hmm, this is tough but I would say Spain. I'd love to be able to go there a bunch, and then hop around Europe from Spain.

3. Where was the best meal you have ever had?
Oh man, I've had so many delicious meals in my life it's hard to pick just one.
I guess the one that pops into my mind is Old Ebbitt in DC. MG and I always go every year around Christmas time for a holiday dinner, and every year we basically order the same stuff (wine, oysters, the same main dishes, creme brûlée for dessert and Gran Marnier) and it's ALWAYS delicious.
I've definitely had other meals that were just as good (and maybe better), but the memories we make there, around that food, are so special to me

4. Is there any travel "advice" you totally hate or don't believe in?
The only thing I can think of is when people tell you what you should or shouldn't do on your honeymoon. Honestly, do whatever you want/need to do. What's good for you might not be good for someone else. Do you and don't let anyone tell you that you're wrong or right for doing it. I checked my phone while on my honeymoon because people were posting pics from our wedding--we were laying poolside together, relaxing, and got to relive all of the joy of our wedding every time we saw those photos and well-wishes. It didn't take away from our romantic, quality time, but made it that much more fun to see our wedding photos and the love our true friends were sending our way.

5. Where is the most underrated place you have been to?
Hmm...this is a tough one. I guess if I had to pick a place, I would say Minnesota. Most people just think Minnesota is cold (don't get me wrong, it is), but it also has some amazing restaurants, and great things to do and see like Minne-haha falls, etc. We've always had a good time when we go and visit our friends who are out there.

6. What is the one "unnecessary" item you always pack?
I usually overpack with a few extra outfits/shoes to go with outfits and I end up not wearing them. I still think it's nice to have options on vacation which is how I validate my overpacking :)

7. What city/country is at the top of your bucket list?
City: Newport, RI--our friends just got engaged here and will be having their wedding here next summer and it looks absolutely beautiful!
Country: Greece (once the craziness there dies down a bit). Because...this

8. What is the most spontaneous thing you have ever done?
I'm not a super spontaneous person--I like plans and feeling prepared for stuff, so my answer to this is probably really lame. I think the most fun spontaneous things we've done is just deciding to drive somewhere an hour or so away for the day and do something new. Whether it's to drive, do some shopping and grab lunch, or try a new winery, I enjoy those last minute "let's just go do something" kind of days.

9. What is your favorite road trip song?
Going Back to Cali....it's car-dance-able and a throw-back.
One great memory I have to this song was riding with my friend Bree, and she was dropping me off after shopping or something, and this song came on. We were dancing and singing like fools, and when she got to my house, the song wasn't over, so we drove around the block a couple more times, just to continue dancing and singing until it was over.
Love a good car dance party ;)

10. Where are you going to next?
We just got back from Chicago and will be going to the shore for a bit soon. Beyond that, we don't have any big trips on the horizon, other than maybe to Virginia Beach to visit my bestie in the Fall and Minnesota sometime in October.

Instead of nominating a bunch of bloggers, anyone who wants to participate in this, just answer the same questions, because I'd love to hear your answers!

Liebster Award!

Happy Cinco De Mayo!!!

The other week I was nominated by the super sweet Meghan for the Liebster award!

She posed the following questions for me to answer, so here goes:

1. What is the best book you've read in the last year?
Probably What Alice Forgot by Lianne Moriarty. But I've read a lot of great books this year, so it's hard to choose just one. (check out my Book Reviews tab for some more recommendations)

2. What does a "normal" day look like for you?
Waking up around 6:30, walking Cooper, eating breakfast and heading out the door by 7:30. At work with kiddos until 4, then back home to walk Cooper and work out. Talk to my best friend (most days), making dinner and unwinding from the day with the hubs. Cuddling with Cooper on the couch and heading to bed around 10. Nothing too nuts!

3. Manicure and pedicure or blow out?
As much as I love a good blow out, I'd take the mani pedi since they last longer than the blow out.

4. What is the one food you could eat every day?
Cheese. I'm a fiend for cheese. I'd eat it on top of things shredded, in slices on crackers, or just by itself. I'm a cheese lover, for sure.
{via}  lol--love this :)
5. What is the biggest item on your bucket list?
I don't know if it's bucket list worthy, but getting our basement re-done so that we can have a huge get-together with our friends to kick off the Summer is high on my priority list right now. Luckily we've started taking steps to get this done and hopefully will be finished with it soon!

6. What is been your favorite part of blogging?
I'm sure my answer is the same as most people's would be to this question, but it's meeting so many amazing women. The ones who are supportive, helpful, kind and caring. It's hard to find people like that, and I've found an abundance of them in the blog world. I'm super thankful for those relationships and the support network that comes with it!

7. How do you relax?
It depends. Sometimes it's working out, other times it's vegging in front of the tv, or reading outside. Anything that distracts me from any of the stresses of daily life.

8. Favorite drink?
Wine (duh), or an Arnold Palmer (dirty!)--perfect for a summer drink!

9. What is your dream vacation?
Going to the Maldives. It looks like Heaven.
Greece is pretty high up there as well!

10. What is your favorite room in your house/apartment and why?
Right now I'd say it's our guest bedroom. It looks so put together and "adult" to me. I love walking by it every day and seeing how clean it looks.
But, to be fair, I love all of the rooms that we've done updates to because it shows all of the hard work that we've done to make our house feel like a home.

I nominate the following 5 bloggers for the Liebster award:

Courtney@Eric and Courtney

Here are your questions:

1. If you could pick up and go to any state in the U.S. right now, where would it be and why?
2. Sweet or Salty?
3. What are you looking forward to most this Summer?
4. If you could sit and read a book for an entire day, what genre would you choose?
5. What day of the week is your favorite and why?
6. Are you on Pinterest? What types of things do you pin the most? Link to your board.
7. What's your favorite app on your phone?
8. When you're having a rough day, what are some things that you do to de-stress?
9. If you could change careers right now, what would you do?
10. What's your favorite dessert and/or appetizer?

Thanks for nominating me, Meghan!!

Blog Awards

I have been MAJORLY slacking with responding to all of the amazing ladies who have nominated me for various blog awards, but I promise, I'm getting to it now! Forgive me!!!!

I was nominated by the following ladies for a Liebster award:

And these lovely ladies also nominated me for a One Lovely Blog Award:

The rules for each are different, so I'm gonna mish-mash them into one post.

7 Random Facts About Me:

1) Things I love (in no particular order): cheese, dolphins, puppies, reality tv, Pinterest, reading (on my Kindle), text messages with friends

2) My favorite color is purple! But I'm not obsessive with it like making sure every outfit I wear has something purple with it (that's how you end up looking mis-matched and tacky). But if I have a choice of getting something like a Kindle or iphone case, it will 100% have some purple on it!

3) I still wear a t-shirt I have from my 4th grade track team as a gym shirt. And it fits. Like, legit fits. (Given, it used to be ginormous when I was in 4th grade, but still...)

4) I love giving gifts. I get excited about the person's reaction and making someone else feel all warm and fuzzy. Sometimes giving gifts is better than getting them, especially when there's thought put into it!

5) I can crack my toes. Gross, I know (but it feels so good sometimes!)

6) As I'm writing this, I have 5,209 pins on Pinterest. That's a lot of Pins....and a lot of hours on Pinterest lol

7) My favorite movies from growing up are Mannequin (hello 80's Kim Cattrell!), and The Cutting Edge. I've probably watched each one at LEAST 100 times, and can pretty much quote the each movie throughout. Anyone else remember these movies??

Now, I'm gonna take one question from each of the bloggers who nominated me, rather than answering 400 questions and boring you all to death lol

From Emily@The Cozy Corner  What is your favorite smell? I'd have to say it's anything cinnamon apple scented. I love that smell and will buy candles all the time that are apple, or cinnamon apple. Yum!

From Mae@Endlessly Ever After  What got your blog started? I started reading blogs when my best friend told me about her sister's blog (hey Michelle!), and then I decided to start blogging when I read Casey's blog over at Poodleism--she was so funny and down to earth, and I loved how creative she was. I knew it would be a great outlet for me, as well!

From  Becky@Becky Boops If you could live in any book universe, where would you choose? I would probably choose Harry Potter, but in the world after Voldemort haha--I love all of the fun things that they can do with magic, all of the interesting/unique characters you meet while reading it. It's just a fun place!
