You've probably seen this floating around blog world, and I was lucky enough to be nominated by the super sweet Kathleen at Places I Will Go.
Here are the questions she posed:
1. What is the story behind your blog name?
Going the Distance started because, when I started my blog, I was in a long distance relationship. When that ended, I didn't want to change the name of my blog, so I just did a revamp and made it into going the distance, in my life. Lemonade out of lemons! :)
2. If you had to give up your current passport and get another country's passport, which country would you pick?
Hmm, this is tough but I would say Spain. I'd love to be able to go there a bunch, and then hop around Europe from Spain.
3. Where was the best meal you have ever had?
Oh man, I've had so many delicious meals in my life it's hard to pick just one.
I guess the one that pops into my mind is Old Ebbitt in DC. MG and I always go every year around Christmas time for a holiday dinner, and every year we basically order the same stuff (wine, oysters, the same main dishes, creme brûlée for dessert and Gran Marnier) and it's ALWAYS delicious.
I've definitely had other meals that were just as good (and maybe better), but the memories we make there, around that food, are so special to me
4. Is there any travel "advice" you totally hate or don't believe in?
The only thing I can think of is when people tell you what you should or shouldn't do on your honeymoon. Honestly, do whatever you want/need to do. What's good for you might not be good for someone else. Do you and don't let anyone tell you that you're wrong or right for doing it. I checked my phone while on my honeymoon because people were posting pics from our wedding--we were laying poolside together, relaxing, and got to relive all of the joy of our wedding every time we saw those photos and well-wishes. It didn't take away from our romantic, quality time, but made it that much more fun to see our wedding photos and the love our true friends were sending our way.
5. Where is the most underrated place you have been to?
Hmm...this is a tough one. I guess if I had to pick a place, I would say Minnesota. Most people just think Minnesota is cold (don't get me wrong, it is), but it also has some amazing restaurants, and great things to do and see like Minne-haha falls, etc. We've always had a good time when we go and visit our friends who are out there.
6. What is the one "unnecessary" item you always pack?
I usually overpack with a few extra outfits/shoes to go with outfits and I end up not wearing them. I still think it's nice to have options on vacation which is how I validate my overpacking :)
7. What city/country is at the top of your bucket list?
City: Newport, RI--our friends just got engaged here and will be having their wedding here next summer and it looks absolutely beautiful!
Country: Greece (once the craziness there dies down a bit). Because...this

8. What is the most spontaneous thing you have ever done?
I'm not a super spontaneous person--I like plans and feeling prepared for stuff, so my answer to this is probably really lame. I think the most fun spontaneous things we've done is just deciding to drive somewhere an hour or so away for the day and do something new. Whether it's to drive, do some shopping and grab lunch, or try a new winery, I enjoy those last minute "let's just go do something" kind of days.
9. What is your favorite road trip song?
Going Back to Cali....it's car-dance-able and a throw-back.
One great memory I have to this song was riding with my friend Bree, and she was dropping me off after shopping or something, and this song came on. We were dancing and singing like fools, and when she got to my house, the song wasn't over, so we drove around the block a couple more times, just to continue dancing and singing until it was over.
Love a good car dance party ;)
10. Where are you going to next?
We just got back from Chicago and will be going to the shore for a bit soon. Beyond that, we don't have any big trips on the horizon, other than maybe to Virginia Beach to visit my bestie in the Fall and Minnesota sometime in October.
Instead of nominating a bunch of bloggers, anyone who wants to participate in this, just answer the same questions, because I'd love to hear your answers!
