Funny things kids say

It's been a while since I've shared some of the funny things I've heard at school from the kids, so I figured since the school year is winding down, it's a great time for another doe of kid funnies!

Heard from a student as they were rushing out of the building at the end of the school day:
"I don't know what country we're in. It's either Hawaii or Thailand."
I think someone needs to pay a little closer attention in History!
(I dunno about you, but these look nothing alike...)

~.~.~.~
One of my super cute, sweet first graders was asking how old I was. I asked her how old she thought I was and she said 20 (oh, bless her...). Then the other little boy, who's also a little peach, goes "I think you're 35. My mom is 35." Then he asked how old the girl's mom was and she said, "My mom is 47"
His response: "Wow! That's a lot of inches!"
hahah

Two 3rd grade students were outside of my office at the end of the day, emptying things into

the big recycling bin. The girl is saying to the boy, "And next week, I'm not going to help you. You're going to do it. All by yourself."

It kind of trails off and I can't hear what she's saying, and then I hear her say,
"And on Monday, what will your desk be like?"
Boy: "Clean"
Girl: "And on Tuesday, what will your desk be like?"
Boy: "Clean."
Girl: "And on Wednesday, what will your desk be like?"
Boy: "Clean"
And so on...
Girl: "And on Friday, will your desk be heinous, or will it be clean?"
Boy, smirking: "Clean?"
And yes, a 3rd grader used the word 'heinous'...and used it correctly!

Just a few snap shots into the funny things I come across and hear on a regular basis. One of the many perks about working with the kiddos!

Three Things I'm Thankful for Thursday

Hey all, happy Thursday! Just one more day til the long-awaited for weekend to arrive!

So, as I've said in my other posts, sometimes it helps to take a second and look at the positive things going on in our lives. It's really easy to get caught up in the crap-tasticness of a day, but looking out for positive things can really help to either turn that feeling around completely, or just make it feel a little less sucky. So here you have my 3 things that I'm tankful for today:

Oh Shel Silverstein! How I love thee...

1) I am thankful for my students that I work with, especially one little peanut in particular who is in 4th grade and I get to see every day. This week has been the first time that we haven't gotten to see each other every morning first thing because we have been doing district-wide testing and she has had to be in class during the times I would normally see her. So, today her classroom teacher told me: "T has been really missing you. She asks me every day where Miss Z is." Melt my heart. Then I saw her later in the afternoon and she came barreling into my office to give me a 10 minute long squeeze-tastic hug! It feels so good to be loved by the kiddos.

2) I am thankful that kids can be kind to one another. In so many instances I see kids being hateful and just downright mean to one another and it sucks. Today, in one of the classrooms I was wandering into today, the kids were all on the floor watching a movie. And I saw one girl nicely rubbing another girl's back with her fingertips (it was sweet and innocent--don't make it dirty). Both totally engaged in the movie. I pointed to them and nod at the teacher and she smiled and said "Yeah, all of my kids do that for each other. It's really sweet." Which made me think how nice it is to have friends who willingly do nice things for you. And I'm glad to see those things still shine through in school.

3) I am thankful for our local Tapas restaurant , La Tasca, for having Half Priced pitchers of Sangria today. Mmmmmm. I'm also thankful that today it is in the 70's and absolutely sunny and beautiful. And that this is the weather in which I will partake in my sangria-consumption :)  (If you're ever in the DC area, La Tasca is a great place to get some sangria!)

So, on that note, I am off to meet up with my friend to celebrate a beautiful Spring day in the city! What's NOT to be thankful for there??? :)

Happy Thursday, peeps!!!

Uno Uh-oh!

Hey friends! Today brings sunshine and warm weather which means I am a happy girl. I'd be a little happier if I could actually be outside enjoying it, but looking at it through the window and looking forward to being in it after work is ok with me! Today's blog brings a random story, a random article, and a random snack idea. So, read on!

Today brings a story of a girl I work with. She's a peach. I heart this little girl because she is a hard worker, but she's super sweet and really fun. Well today we played Uno, as is our routine lately (she really enjoys when she makes me Draw Two over and over again and then hits me with a Draw Four), but today I beat her. Three times in a row. And even the last game I TRIED to lose. Usually she is ok with losing to me (and really really LOVES it when she wins), but today she shut down and started to cry. I don't know what happened. I didn't gloat or tease her about it. She just broke down. I am wondering if something else was getting her down today and that just made it worse, since that's not like her. Felt like I walked into a huge UH OH on that one. Luckily she recovered ok and said she wanted to play again tomorrow. I think I will have to make sure I lose all games, no matter what it takes.

On a random article note, I saw this in the paper today on the way to work this morning. A man got upset that the Beefy Crunch Burritos he ordered at Taco Bell went from 99 cents to $1.49, and so decided to fire an air gun at an employee and then later a rifle at police officers. Um, it's 50 cents. I'd loan you that, dude, just so you wouldn't kirk out at a Taco Bell. At first when I read the headline in the Express, I thought he was upset because it wasn't real meat. Apparently that wasn't on the list of things he was upset about that day.

And now onto my random snack. Instead of noshing on Sour Patch Kids (as delicious as they are, eating them at 9 or 10am is probably not the most healthy option), I decided to bring something a bit healthier to work today. After visiting my parents this weekend, my mom had picked me up a Costco sized bag of Craisins (aka, I have a lifetime supply almost) and some almonds. I mixed these two bad boys together into a little sandwich baggie and I had a pretty healthy mid-morning snack! Try it out! It was delicious!

Happy Tuesday!
