Thirsty Thursday Virtual Happy Hour #8

Happy Thursday! You know what that means? Another round of Thirsty Thursday with myself and the lovely Trish. This is a place where you can share a drink (if you want), and gossip about what's going on in your life! You don't need to be a drinker to join in on the fun!

What's Our Drink?

Pomegranate and Lime White Wine Spritzer

What you need: - 1/2 Cup Seltzer Water
-1 Cup White Wine
-1 Tablespoon Pomegranate Seeds
-1 Lime Wedge

Directions: Add ice to a glass. Add the wine and top with seltzer. Add pomegranate seeds and lime wedge. Drink up!

Now, that we have our drink....

What's On Your Mind???

Real Housewives
I love me some Real Housewives. I've been an avid follower since the beginning...I even watched Miami (painfully). But I think I'm done with New York. Last season was touch and go for me with those ladies, and I can't stand Ramona anymore, or Sonja either really. And the new ladies. Blah. Whatever. I could barely make it through the first episode without being bored. What do you guys think of the new season? I'm pretty sure I'm over it. I'd rather watch Shahs of Sunset (and that is saying something).

Moving
I know this topic has come up quite frequently in some of my posts lately (and I promise in the next month, it will stop), but as I was sitting at home the other day, cleaning out things in my bathroom, I looked around and got an overwhelming feeling of being overwhelmed. I've moved before (more times than I want to count), but I've never moved IN with someone. Paring down my things is harder than I thought it would be. And not knowing if everything will "fit" is giving me some anxiety. I'm sure it will all work out, and when I have more time to focus all of my energy on it, it will be better. But right now, with work wrapping up and trying to tackle some of this, I'm feeling the pressure.

The Gym
I've been doing a better job of getting myself to the gym this week (yay!) and my workout mixes have definitely been helping (read about that here). But, I have a question for you all: Why do people go to the gym in any of the following?
-jean shorts (jorts)
-80's sweatshirt (yes the kind that hangs off the shoulder) with biker shorts
-flip flops
I dunno about you, but none of these, with a slight exception for the 80's sweatshirt, says that you are really there to work out. Today I saw ALL of these. Two of them on the same person (jorts and sandals). What the heck?? I guess I give 'em credit for actually going to the gym. I give them more credit for giving me something to be entertained by while working out :)

Magic Mike
Ohhhh emmmm geeeeee.....
Oh yes, ladies...if the 50 Shades stuff wasn't enough for you, we now get to glimpse into hottie Channing Tatum's past life as a stripper in the new movie Magic Mike. The whole premise of the movie is SUPER cheesy and probably a bit crass. BUT, will that stop me from seeing it? Absolutely not! Channing Tatum (or 'Charning Tartum" as MG likes to call him) is hotness personified. Miss an opportunity to see that? No way, Jose! As soon as MG saw the preview for this movie, the eye rolling began...(frankly, any time I bring up Channing the eye rolls happen haha). Will you judge me for seeing this movie? It's ok if you do....just make sure that before you do so, you give me a tissue so I can wipe the drool from my face as I watch it! ;) Are YOU going to see it?

And on that hotttttt note, I'm back to my real world work life...I hope you guys had fun at our happy hour, I know I sure did! ;)

Don't forget to link-up!

Thirsty Thursday #7: Virtual Happy Hour Link Up

Happy Thursday, party people! It's time for another edition of Thirsty Thursday with myself and the awesome Trish for some virtual happy hour'ing!

You don't have to be a drinker to join. Just post about anything that's going on in your life that you would share during a happy hour with your friends!

Drink of the Day: Shaken Nectarine Vodka Chiller

What you need:
-1 nectarine
-1 shot of vodka
-some raspberries (optional)
-ice filling the jar about 3/4 of the way
-cold club soda

Peel the nectarine and put in food processor until smooth. Add about 3/4 of the pulpy mixture to the bottom of a mason jar. Add shot of vodka, raspberries, and fill 3/4 of the jar with ice. Top with cold club soda, put lid on and SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE! Enjoy!
So, now that we have our drink, What's on Your Mind?

The Beach
The pull of the end of the school year, and the desire to be 100% totally relaxed is making me daydream about MG's and my trip to the beach coming up in less than a month. It will be time with his family, who I love, and time away from the city, soaking up the sun and having a good time. I can't wait.

Aziz Ansari
I saw his stand-up special last week and it was HILARIOUS. I was laughing out loud all by myself.  I've enjoyed Aziz's comedy before, and find him endlessly entertaining. If you haven't seen the stand-up special on comedy central, look for it in your guide and DVR it. Totally worth it!
MG and I had tried to get tickets to see him perform but they were outrageously expensive. Sad face.

Karma
I saw last week while roommate's been gone (I dunno where), that she was getting letters from lawyers. I kinda freaked out thinking that she was getting a lawyer for our living situation, but then another day I saw a ticket from DC police come, and the following day, this:
So, it looks like dumb-dumb got in trouble somehow. Not entirely sure what she did, but if lawyers are soliciting you, it can't be good.  Maybe it's just speeding excessively?
Either way, karma's a B....

Reply All
I'm talking about the feature that allows you to respond to everyone on an email....but people abuse the heck out of this. When my principal, or anyone at work for that matter, sends out an informative email, the PE teacher at my school ALWAYS hits "reply all" and sends out a 'Thank you" response. EVERY time. It's fine when it happens once or twice by accident (we've all done that, realized it, and smacked our own heads), but EVERY time? What makes matters worse is that when he replies all, it has included things like "mines is broken" and "We did are best to beat the 95 degree heat". ARE best??? If you're gonna hit reply-all, or send out a group email, check your grammar before you make it known to everyone involved that you're not intelligent.

Zombies
"What? Did she just bring up 'zombies' at happy hour?" Yes, I did. Did you all hear about the guy who was caught eating another dude's face, out in public? While they were both naked? And then continued to eat the guy's face AFTER he had gotten shot??? What the heck??? I dunno what kind of Memorial Day shenanigans they were partaking in... I saw that in the news two days ago and had two reactions:  1) VOM....cuz that ISH is nasty, and
2) We need to get the serum that Will Smith made in 'I Am Legend' to stop this zombie outbreak before it gets bad.

I mean, who DOES that????

And, on that ~fun~ note, I'm off to enjoy another day of work before I head off to a real-life happy hour complete with mimosas and mani-pedis. Jealous? You should be! ;) Don't forget to link up!!

Peace out, girlscouts!

Thirsty Thursday: Virtual Happy Hour #6

Halllllllllll-elujah, it's finally Thursday which means we are SO close to that glorious long weekend!!! As you can tell, I'm *slightly* excited for it, but I'm also excited for the 6th edition of the amazeballs Trish and myself's Thirsty Thursday link up!

Share drinks (if you want), stories about whatever, and the ultimate purpose of a Happy Hour: relax and enjoy!

My drink for the week is:

Strawberry Basil Bellini
{via}
  • For the Simple Syrup:
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 cup Water
  • For the cocktail:
  • ½ cups Strawberries Plus Extra For Garnish If Desired
  • 1 ounce, fluid Simple Syrup
  • 2 whole Small Basil Leaves Plus Extra For Garnish If Desired
  • 1 bottle Prosecco Or Your Favorite Sparkling Wine, 750 ML Bottle

Directions:
For the simple syrup mix one cup sugar and one cup water in a saucepan, stir and bring to a boil. Once sugar is dissolved remove pan from heat. Refrigerate until cold.
Blend the first three cocktail ingredients in a blender until pureed.
Divide the puree between four glasses and top with Prosecco or your favorite sparkling wine. Garnish with a slice of strawberry and basil leaf.
Now that we have our drink....What's on your Mind?
Memorial Day Weekend
MG and I are heading up early Saturday morning to Hershey, PA for our friends' wedding. Luckily it's a 5pm wedding so we have plenty of time in case we hit traffic along the way. Definitely looking forward to that, and then having an extra day to recover from everything (and maybe get some more painting done around the condo!) I'm going to wear this dress to the wedding, I think -->
I went back and forth about that one and another one that is kind of a sear-sucker pattern, but since it's white with light gray I didn't want to risk it and be the dumb-dumb who makes the faux pas of wearing white to a wedding. Think this dress will work for an evening wedding?
Massages
I am in desperate need of a massage. I tried to book the massage that MG got me for Xmas (I know, how could I have NOT used it already?) but none of the dates that I could do it were available. Looks like I'll have to wait a bit longer. My shoulder and neck are SO tight I might need a steamroller to work out those knots! Gaaah!!
Farting
Oh yes, you read that correctly. I dunno what is going on lately, but the kids I work with have been little farting monsters! The primary culprits have been my 3rd graders, but I did have to stop a lesson with my 7th graders to have a discussion about how "everybody farts, but that doesn't mean it needs to interrupt our therapy time"...which of course prompted the question "Everybody, Miss Z? Even you?" Ugh, lol. The 3rd grade ones have been bad. I had one kid earlier this week let one rip that was so horrible in smell that I had to ask him if he needed to use the bathroom. It was TERRIBLE! What are these kids eating??? My nose is counting down the days left of school with me.....

Work and a Cancelled Vacation
Work has screwed me out of the trip to Vegas with MG. So no more trip to Austin OR to Vegas, and it's all because people are idiots and wait until the last minute to schedule meetings. I'm so annoyed, bummed and aggravated that someone else's lack of planning has impacted my ability to do something fun for myself. Story of my life here I guess....I can't stand working at a place that is SO disorganized and run so poorly! Grrr!!!

Changes
I realized that yesterday marked one year since my ex and I broke up. The fact that I wasn't actively thinking about it (I actually had to look up my post about it on here to remember when exactly it happened) says a lot about how different things are now. I can't even begin to describe how much happier I am now, how much better and more trusting of a relationship I'm in, and just how great things are. Instead of being about to move across country to live with someone who wasn't 100% sure about the whole thing, I'm about to be moving in with someone who I absolutely love and adore, trust with all of my heart, and wants to be with me as much as I want to be with him. He has a family who I love, and love me back, and makes my innate worrying self able to take a vacation from the worries. He's one of the best people I know, and I feel so blessed to be in such a happy spot 1 year later.
How about that for a sappy end to a happy hour?? You know, sometimes that can happen after a few drinks ;)
Now it's time to get back to my regular ole life....and get through the rest of the week so I can enjoy the LONG weekend! Can't wait to see you all back here next week!
Don't forget to link up!

Thirsty Thursday Virtual Happy Hour Link Up #5

It's Thursday, and you know what that means! Another edition of Thirsty Thursday, the lovely Trish and my virtual happy hour link up where you can post about ANYTHING and EVERYTHING you want, under the sun (or above the sun if you want! We don't judge!)

"What are we drinking today?" you ask. Let me tell you!

Watermelon-Cucumber Cooler

{via}
What you need:
-5 cups cubed seedless watermelon
-1 large English cucumber, peeled and cut into chunks
-1/4 cup fresh lime juice (about 2 limes)
-2 Tbsp honey
-2/3 cup vodka
-Cucumber slices for garnish
Directions

  1. Set a large fine-mesh sieve over a large bowl or pitcher. In a food processor or blender, puree watermelon. Pour watermelon puree through sieve, pressing on solids with a rubber spatula (you should have about 2 cups juice). Puree English cucumber and pour through sieve into watermelon juice.
  2. In a small bowl or measuring cup, stir together lime juice and honey. Add to watermelon and cucumber juices, along with vodka. Adjust sweetness with more honey if desired. To serve, fill four glasses with ice and top each with cocktail. Garnish with cucumber slices.
Mmmm, after all of the steamier days we've been having lately, this has "refreshing"  written all over it, to me!

Now that we have our drink, What's on Your Mind?

Online Shopping
For one, I need to stop. I go through periods where I don't online shop at all (which means that I avoid looking at every email of all of the FAB deals going on that comes to my inbox), and then I seem to hit a period where I can't help but look at the deals....and subsequently purchase. A ton! I wrote before about some things I purchased, and the other day I got sucked into Loft's 40% deal and bought this guy to the right  ---->

Of course I justified that I can wear it to work, and it will go with just about anything (and it was only $23). But, I need to get a handle on things and close up that wallet! Memorizing my credit card number probably doesn't help either lol.

Working Out
Or maybe I should say "the lack thereof". I dunno what's up with me lately but I can NOT get motivated to hit the gym. Even the impending bathing suit season doesn't seem to rouse me into any kind of workout groove. Nothing! MG and I did, however, sign up for a yoga class that's nearby, and meets 2 times a week (altho we can go once a week if we want). I'm hoping that once we start those, maybe it will get my workout mojo going so that I can get back into the swing of things. I definitely don't want love handles and cottage cheese legs to be my buddies this summer! And you know, I did happen to get a new pair of yoga pants.....online (dangit!) a couple of weeks ago. This  should be the perfect excuse to put those bad boys to work!

Moving
Yesterday I sold my set of couches. It was a little bittersweet because this set was the first thing I purchased on my own (the first "big girl" purchase, if you will) when I moved out of my parents' place 5 years ago *tear*. It was a great set (as you can see) but there's no room for it at MG's place and it's not worth it to pay for storage. So onto Craigslist it went....and the same day I had someone interested who came by the next day! I got a pretty penny for it! But, guess what I found under the big couch when we moved it??? The bowl I have been missing for the last 3-4 months in my set of dishes. In a place where there's no way it was "accidentally" put there. Thanks, roommate! GRRRR. And I'm the psycho, right? Maybe I should have set it next to my roommate's pizza box still on the kitchen floor from March 10th. I kid you not. Come on July!!! :)
Travel

So, that whole potential trip to Austin, TX looks like it's out the window (pooey!) but Vegas might be on the table now. MG and I are going back and forth between whether or not it's worth it for a long weekend (I'd have to take off my last two days of work, and I have very few vacation days left at this point, is the cost worth the short time?) I'm bummed, because I've always wanted to go to Austin, but at least a trip might happen. And Vegas
is fun, right? Sin city!

I'm off to dream about vacations get back to work. It was fun happy hour'ing with you! Come back next week and spill on what's going on with you!
Don't forget to link up!

Thirsty Thursday #4

Soooo glad that it's Thursday because it means we're one day closer to the weekend, and also because it's time for another round of Thirty Thursday, hosted by myself and the amazeballs Trish!

You can share drinks, stories, meet old friends and new! So, what are you waiting for? :)

Link up!
What are we drinking today?

What you need:

-3 oz. Sutter Home Moscato
-1 oz. Vanilla vodka
-1 oz. strawberry soda
-Garnish with a strawberry

Shake Moscato and vanilla vodka with ice.
Pour into your favorite cocktail glass, top with strawberry soda. Garnish with a strawberry and raise a glass to your girls!
~.~.~
I dunno about you all, but that looks super easy, and like the perfect drink, anytime, but especially for a girl's night in....or a happy hour!!

So now that we know what we're drinking....

What's on your mind?

Summer!
As of today, there are 23 more days left of school (aka work) and I can not wait to be done with this school year, and hopefully this school (come on, new job!!). I have a running countdown on my whiteboard in my office as we speak. I think once we hit Memorial Day weekend, it will all happen super fast!

The Weekend
As you may have read in my post the other day, MG and I are making our way up to Philly this weekend. I'll be leaving work early on Friday (yay!) and we're gonna head up so that we can hopefully see his niece, who is 8, in a play with a bunch of high schoolers. She sings in a bunch of solos which is a big deal...esp since she is 8! The kids were all excited that we are coming and I'm looking forward to seeing all of them. We'll probably try and catch a Phillies game on Saturday and who knows what else! Maybe stop at that delish restaurant we went to last time and get myself some more lobster mac and cheese! Mmmmm!

Friendship
Have you ever had a friend that you've had in your life for a long time? Like, almost as long as you can remember (or so it feels like), and then it seems like you don't, all of a sudden? Either because of life circumstances (being busy, work, etc) or because of something that happened that hurt one's feelings, or any number of things? I'm in a situation similar to this and I can't help but be sad. I feel like I've lost a friend who has been a big part of my life for over a decade. There were hurt feelings, but nothing that seemed insurmountable with some communication, and then there was no communication at all. It makes me feel like our relationship means/meant nothing, and it bothers me. This is a girl who would have for sure been in my wedding party whenever I got married. I guess I'm just unsure of how to deal with this. And it totally bums me out.

50 Shades of Grey
I've heard the hype. I'm sure you have, too. I looked into some reviews and saw some less than stellar ones, mainly about the author's writing style and I was put off by it. A few weeks later I saw a few more people on the blogs talking about how the love story (minus the weird kinky stuff) is a good one, and since I forgot what the reviews had said about the author's writing style (another instance of my forgetfulness....remember my wallet??) I figured I'd give it a whirl now that I'm done with Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter (which I thought was just okay). So far I've gotten to the first "juicy" scenes (no pun intended) and no really kinky stuff...(but the tie on the front cover makes more sense now!) I'm just trying to prepare myself for it. I had heard that the book is helping to save a lot of marriages, and as of now, I'm not sure why. Other than maybe it gets the ladies all hot and bothered? I have no idea. I'll let you know what I think of it when I'm done!

String Cheese
Dang I love that stuff...can't get enough of it! :)

Music
I saw this video posted on Life of Meg's blog yesterday and it is SO good. Love it.

Sums up how I feel about many things and people in my life ....

I guess it's time for me to leave our virtual happy hour and get back to work! Looking forward to seeing you all again next week so we can catch up!

Thirsty Thursday: Virtual Happy Hour #3

Happy Thursday! And since it's Thursday, that means it's time for another edition of Thirsty Thursday with myself and the lovely Trish at Tales from Trish:

This week's drink is: Blueberry Champagne Sparklers!
{via}

What you need:

1 cup blueberries
1 cup pineapple juice
2 teaspoons chopped mint leaves
superfine sugar, as needed
1 bottle champagne

Puree blueberries, pineapple juice and mint in a blender. Taste for tartness. If needed, blend in sugar to taste. Strain.

Pour 2-3 tablespoons juice into flutes and slowly top with champagne.

So, now that we have our drink...

What's on your mind?

Stress! I can't begin to tell you how long and stressful this week has felt. Between all of the testing I've had to do at work lately in order to meet deadlines, dealing with a crummy situation with a friend, and my roommate drama, I feel like I've been through the ringer a few times over....and it's not even Friday yet! (time to take a big looooooong guzzle of my virtual drink) :)

Yes, that is an Adidas shirt from like 1990-something.
Don't judge me :)
I've also been trying to clean out the apartment of things that I don't need since MG's place doesn't have room for all of the furniture that I have. I've taken to listing things on craigslist and so far, I've gotten rid of  a lot of furniture stuff, but I've also gone through my closet and dressers once now, and got rid of two FULL trash bags worth of clothes! I'm pretty proud of myself--it's rare that I give up clothes that easily, but I guess having the motivation of moving in and knowing space will be tight made it easier. Plus, it just kinda felt good to get rid of things that I haven't worn at all, or much, in the last few years. Someone will get some good use out of them, and that makes me happy.

On a more fun note, I know a lot of people are obsessed with Draw Something (I myself went through the phase of not being able to stop myself from playing it ALL THE TIME), but I am now obsessed with Scramble with Friends. Have you played? It's like boggle, and I love it. I particularly love that everyone who seemed to cream me in Words with Friends (which I don't even play anymore), I can whoop up on in Scramble! Like MG....it is comical how frustrated he gets when I beat him, time and time again. (I even played with no cheats once and let him play with two, and I still got him!) If you haven't tried it, download it--you will be addicted! :)

Did you hear that Ben and Jerry's has Greek Yogurt fro-yo (or "Greek Frozen Yogurt)??? I saw an ad for this in the metro station of all places and it makes me happy. Not only will it, hopefully, be even healthier than regular fro-yo, but the flavors that they are starting out with sound promising!

I recently got MG to try Greek Yogurt and he likes it as much as I do. The amount of protein you get from it is awesome and it's so good for you!

Since we've both been frequenting our local Fro-yo establishment all the time more often than we probably should, this would be a great alternative! I'm excited!
~.~.~.~.~
On that note, I need to leave our happy hour and get back to that icky place known as "the real world." I hope you all enjoyed our time at Happy Hour--I know I feel better after airing my worries and happenings!

Look forward to seeing you all next week and finding out what's going on in your world! :)
