Happy What's Hap-"Pinning" Wednesday, and the start of the week long countdown to Thanksgiving!
I'm still kind of in shock that it's just 8 days away!
This is the first time in probably 4 years that MG and I aren't hosting his parents and my parents (and last year we had my SIL and her family down). Instead, we're going with my mom up to PA to my SIL's house to celebrate. It'll be nice to not have the pressure of cooking and hosting, but I've enjoyed having people over, cooking, and decorating.

I thought it would be fun to do a little Thanksgiving Questionnaire since I always like getting to see people's ideas and preferences!

Favorite Part of Thanksgiving Meal: the sides are hands down my favorite part of Thanksgiving. I could take or leave the turkey, but give me ALLLLLLL the sides!

Favorite Side(s): sweet potatoes and stuffing are definitely in my top, and then the squash casserole that my mom and I make from my aunt's recipe is always a favorite as well
Have You Hosted Before? Yes, several times!

Favorite Decor for Thanksgiving: I love cute and unique place settings like these

Tree Up Before or After Thanksgiving (if you celebrate)? After! I'm a big proponent of celebrating each holiday as they come. When I see Christmas trees and decor up in stores in early October it makes me twitchy

Gravy or No Gravy? I used to be a no gravy person until I had my brother-in-law's home made gravy. So, I might be a convert

Smooth or Chunky Cranberry Sauce? Smooth 100%. Chunks are ew! Give me the stuff from the can any day!

Pumpkin Pie or Another Kind? Again, the texture of pumpkin pie always gets me, so I'd choose an apple pie with vanilla ice cream every day! (my mouth is watering thinking about all of this food!)
Biggest Thing You're Thankful For This Year: I'm sure it's no surprise that MG and I are incredibly thankful that we have a baby on the way. It's been a long time coming, and something that I've wished for for two years now, and wanted so badly to celebrate during Thanksgiving. We are so grateful and feel so blessed. This year it's a bit bittersweet, though, because I would have loved to be able to share this celebration this Thanksgiving with my dad. It makes me tear up a bit remembering him say last year "I don't know if I'll be at Thanksgiving next year" and now realize that he was right. As much as my heart is still broken from losing him, I take comfort in knowing that he'll be with us on Thanksgiving, even if it's not the way we had hoped, and I also know that he's had a hand in our baby blessing, and for that, I'm truly grateful.

What are you looking forward to most this Thanksgiving? Most thankful for?

Now it's your turn to link up with Jessi and I and share what's hap-"pinning" with you!

  13. Seriously how is it only 8 days away?! You would think that we've already moved past Thanksgiving by the looks of all the holiday displays in the stores. But whatever! I'm so excited-- it's my favorite holiday. I mean friends, family, tons of food. What could be better?! Squash casserole sounds delish! And apple pie! Majorly hungry now! :)

  15. I can't believe it's 8 days away either, and it's also the first time in several years that I'm not hosting and it feels nice. Is it bad that I'm super excited to just relax and eat all the food with loved ones? <3

  16. This was a fun questionnaire! Yes to all the sides - I could eat a whole plate of stuffing and be perfectly content. You have so much to be thankful for this year, and I'm sure your dad is somewhere smiling about it all!

  17. I am so sorry for the loss of your dad. My FIL passed away in Jan. of 2015, we then found out our IVF worked Feb. of 2015 and of course Bowen was born in November and I just know he sent us this sweet boy! Of course he doesn't replace my FIL but I feel like he had a hand in sending us all this baby boy to bring some sunshine during a sad time.

  18. I'm so looking forward to stuffing and mashed potatoes/gravy! Holidays are always hard when you've lost someone, but stay focused on those precious memories you have and always remind your little one of those and they'll always remain a part of the family! My boys never knew their grandma (who was like my second mom) and it breaks my heart, but they hear about her so much from me, she's still very much a part of our family.

  19. He is with you for sure and he always will be.

Sometimes I wish that the Canadian thanksgiving was in November to kick off the holidays but I'm good with kicking off mid November by myself haha

  20. i could take or leave the turkey as well, and i am not a fan of pumpkin pie so my MIL totally gets an apple pie just for me (well other people have some too but i could eat the whole thing on my own haha)

  23. I'm with you; I could eat a Thanksgiving meal of sides alone. Although I can't do ANY type of cranberry sauce...blegh! I know your dad would have enjoyed spending Thanksgiving with everyone, especially this year knowing y'all have a baby on the way.

  24. I love all of the sides as well. I appreciate the turkey more the next day, I make a sandwich and gumbo with it! Gravy is one of the best parts though, glad you came over to team gravy! I know your dad is smiling knowing that your hopes and dreams of a baby have come to fruition. Enjoy your time with your family!

  25. Aw so nice that you don't need to worry about hosting and that your mom is coming with you guys too! Love the sides and we are tree after too! The past couple years we had to put it up the week before because of traveling to see Derek's family so I'm thrilled since we're hosting we can put it up the day after like usual now!

  26. Gosh Thanksgiving is just around the corner and now you have me all kinds of excited for my favorite part about Thanksgiving (other than family time) --> Stuffing! I've always been a gravy person even though it can be hit or miss, but I think your BIL needs to share his recipe *wink wink*

  27. No turkey for me but lots and lots of dressing! So sorry you will be missing your dad. Each year as the holidays roll around I get in a little bit of a funk and it takes me a bit to realize I'm missing mine. Hope your memories and time with family help you celebrate your new little blessing to the fullest!
